Shamwari Bayethe

In the malaria-free Shamwari Private Game Reserve is a luxury tented lodge, Shamwari Bayethe Lodge site.   The reserve is in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and home to the legendary big five. Just a short drive from Port Elizabeth, alongside the Bushmans River in a verdant bush, is this spectacular reserve. The reserve boasts at least five different eco systems, which support all kinds of plant, animal and bird life. This means that because of the variety of eco systems in the area, not only the big five roam freely through the reserve, but also several other game species.

Shaded under the trees are nine luxury tents in the Shamwari Bayethe Lodge. The en-suite room walks out onto a viewing deck overlooking the river and African bushveld. A private plunge pool is situated on the viewing deck, enabling guests to relax in cool waters with a clear view of the river, allowing game viewing even from the pool. Ultimate luxury is found in the three premier tents. The tents include a fire place, satellite television and a hammock at the private plunge pool, a viewing deck and a shower. All the tents are heated in winter and air conditioned in summer.

A large deck area, which extended from the main lodge, overlooks the waterhole. Guests can join other guests on the deck for a cocktail to discuss all the animals coming to the waterhole to quench their thirst. The lounge and large dining area of the Shamwari Bayethe Lodge walks out onto this deck and next to it is the boma with a warm log fire. Guests can enjoy a delicious dinner of great variety and friendly conversation, in the boma under the stars. Other activities on offer are morning and evening game drives and walking safaris to get even closer to nature.
