Phinda Rock Lodge
Rock Lodge is situated against a cliff in the Phinda Private Game Reserve. It is one of only two private game reserves in this part of South Africa which is home to the 'Big Five'. The reserve offers a unique safari experience in no less than seven different ecosystems.
The
unique location of the lodge has required amazing architectural innovation and detail, which adds to its charm and character. Each of the six suites, has a large bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Each suite, suspended from the edge of the rocky cliff, has its own private lounge, deck and plunge pool, all offering unrivalled views of the valley below and the visually striking leopard rock.
Rough-hewn sandstone, adobe walls and ochre-packed roofs cling to the rock face. A beautiful extension of the natural environment, the rock foundations blend seamlesly into the mountain's contours. The Lodge's suites are decorated with artwork from Spain and Mexico. The colour scheme is warm and inviting. Terminalia wood, gathered from the bush-clearing project in the north of the reserve, is used as a supporting feature.
The Lodge offers two game drives daily, interpretive bush walks with an experienced ranger, riverboat cruises and canoeing. Other activities include horse back riding on the beach, scuba diving, deep sea fishing or take a night turtle drive when the loggerhead and the leatherback turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs in season. Afterwards enjoy a delightful seaside dinner. For added adventure, take a flight in a light aircraft called the fish eagle, over the breathtaking mountains and coastline of the diverse Maputoland wilderness, or enjoy deep sea fishing for the day.
