Ntshondwe Camp

The Ithala Game Reserve stretches from the Ngotshe Mountains and down into a deep valley.  The Pongolo River flows through the reserve and reveals the world's oldest rock formations and thus ensuring a game viewer’s paradise. Ithala's topography extends over lowveld and densely vegetated riverine valleys to high-lying grassland plateaus, ridges and cliff faces and a great diversity of wildlife enjoy this fabulous landscape. Ntshondwe Camp is situated in Ithala Game Reserve’s and is the main camp. It is located at the foot of the Ngothse Mountains which is a haven for raptors.

The Ntshondwe Camp consists of 39 thatched chalets.  The chalets are surrounded by a lush setting of Acacias, Wild figs, Cabbage trees and other indigenous flora.  In the chalets can sleep from two to six guests and some of these have been designed for use by the handicapped. The chalets are fully equipped, self-catering or non-self-catering. Visitors may bring their own provisions or make use of the restaurant, bar or coffee shop on the premises.  Each unit has its own en-suite bathroom.

The chalets of the Ntshondwe Camp are situated around the main lodge.  The main lodge has a fully licensed restaurant serving all meals, a bar and a game viewing deck which overlooks a small pan. The Ntshondwe Camp’s swimming pool is built around a giant rock.  A fully-equipped conference centre and an imaginatively stocked curio shop, which also carries a range of basic provisions, are also found at Ntshondwe Camp. 

Guests can book a game drive though the park or explore the area in their own time. Take a self guided walk up the wooded mountain trails or hire a qualified field ranger. He will be able to take you to various rock formations, spots with wildlife or even river pools that are safe to swim in. There are various picnic sites on the reserve that are equipped with barbeque area and toilets, or take a drive along the well marked out roads with wonderful points of interest.   Enjoy the large bio diversity of the surroundings as well as the diversity of plant and animal life that is sustained by this beautiful area.
