In the heart of Zululand, in Kwazulu Natal, is the beautiful Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve. The environment is a unique blend of bushveld, grassland and wetland, which offers a habitat for a great diversity of animal and bird species. Mkuze Falls is one of two reserves, privately owned, that can boast about being home to Africa’s big five. The reserve hosts more than 400 species of birds, which is especially prevalent here in the wetland area where you can spot the Fish eagle, Giant Kingfisher, and many more.

Mkuze Falls Game Lodge consists of eight thatched chalets, a safari suite, a central complex and a tented lodge. The Central complex is built on a raised wooden platform and has spacious verandas that offer a clear view of the beautiful falls and the Mkuzi River beyond. The Mkuze Falls Game Lodge’s facilities are all centrally located. These include a lovely dining room, a comfortable lounge area and a shady terrace that leads to the swimming pool. There is also a cozy indoor pub, where you can enjoy a sundowner, or just relax. The large lounge area gives access to a viewing deck, which is built in such a way that it slopes over the river, to maximize your view on the magnificent Mkuze River and the landscape beyond.  
            
The Tented Lodge offers five East African safari tents, and is built on wooden decks that were raised on stilts. They are situated on the Mkuze River, allowing  beautiful views of the lush green countryside and the river where animals and birds quenching their thirst. The tents are both comfortably and stylishly decorated with a mini bar, air conditioning, overhead fan, en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath and indoor and outdoor showers.  They also have a lounge, bar, boma and swimming pool as added facilities. All the tents are interlinked with wooden walkways, yet are completely private.

The menus change daily and are deliciously prepared African cuisine, including venison, is served.  In the evenings locals perform highly energized Zulu dances to entertain the guests.  In fine weather, dining commences at the boma in the form of a traditional South African barbeque or rather ‘braai’. The Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve has a fully equipped health and beauty centre where you can relax and unwind.  Also on offer are guided safari drives early mornings or late afternoons, to view the animal life,  especially the Big Five.
