A mere 45 km away from the spectacular Vic falls, close to the banks of the Zambezi river, lies the Matetsi Water Lodge, that forms part of the Zimbabwe conservation area. It comprises of three romantic camps, namely the West Water, North Water and East Water camps, which is situated next to the river under a lush canopy of riverine trees.
Each camp in the Matetsi Water Lodge has six private suites, with en-suite bathrooms as well as an indoor and outdoor shower. Each room has beautifully crafted teak doors that opens up onto a private plunge pool with breathtaking views of the mighty Zambezi River. The planning of the camps was done with privacy in mind.
Thatched roof guest areas with open sides, consist of an elegant dining and sitting area with a large fireplace. At the Pan-African Restaurant, delicious cuisine is served on dining decks, situated directly on the river bank or for a special treat, dining is offered in a surprise setting in Matetsi’s pristine wilderness.
The Matetsi Water Lodge is renowned for its rich wildlife and especially for its large concentration of elephant herds. This reserve is among the view Lodges to offer night time game drives offering guests the opportunity to observe nocturnal animals namely lions, leopards and others, hunting in the wild. Being so close to the water, the Matetsi Water Lodge also offers delightfully exhilarating riverboat cruises and guided canoeing expeditions, which is very popular among the guests. These are mostly held in the mornings, just after sunrise, or afternoons, just before sunset, as the animals come to the river to quench their thirst.
Not far from the lodge is the breathtaking Victoria Water falls. Other than enjoying the magnificence of the waterfalls, there are also some exhilarating activities on offer. These activities include white water rafting, bungi jumping off the bridge and hiking in the spectacular rain forest. Guests will be able to take in the splendor of the whole valley when viewing the falls from the sky from the comfort of a helicopter or light aircraft. |
