Letaba Rest Camp is situated between the southern and northern boundaries of the famous Kruger National Park on the banks of the Letaba River. The name Letaba means “river of sand”. The Letaba River is a tremendous location for game viewing, especially elephant. Letaba is set in a green oasis and is surrounded by Mopane trees. In the winter time the gardens of the Letaba Camp change into the richest colors, with several species of Aloe and the Impala lily in full bloom. The Aloes attract a variety of birds, including the White Bellied and Marico Sunbird, Crested Barbet, Blackheaded Oriole and Black Eyed Bulbul. Letaba Camp offers a choice between guesthouses, cottages, bungalows as well as huts, caravan sites and furnished safari tents. There are 4-bed and 2-bed tents. They come equipped with a wardrobe, fan, table, chairs and refrigerator. No cooking utensils or crockery is provided, so please bring your own. The Melville Guest house, guest cottages and bungalows, come fully equipped with all necessities for self-catering and all of them have en-suite bedrooms whereas only some of them have spectacular river views. The tents share ablution blocks. There are also some other helpful facilities such as a gasoline station, emergency road services, basic first aid services, picnic services and so forth. Guided game drives and bush walks can be arranged with the Letaba camp or guests can drive around in the park with their own vehicle. Guests who stay in the camp have a clear view of the other side of the river and can watch the animals as they come down to drink some water. Guests can visit the Letaba Elephant hall and sharpen their knowledge about these giant creatures. The Masorini Ruins and Matambeni Bird Hide are perfect bird viewing spots, since they are close to a water source, on the banks of the Engelhardt dam. The Letaba Camp also has a swimming pool. |
