Deep in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the Eagle Island Lodge. The Camp is situated on the island, Xaxaba, and is surrounded by Illala Palms overlooking a lagoon. Eagle Island Lodge forms part of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve conserved by tribal rather than colonial people. The area is home to an abundance of bird and wildlife species and is unfenced, allowing game to move freely around in the Delta. A great variety of wildlife gathers on the vast flood planes of the Delta.
Twelve luxury tents offer guests accommodation, bringing the wilderness and comfort together. The tents are raised on wooden platforms and are shaded by large thatched roofs. A private wooden deck is part of the comforts of each tent, and can be used to do game viewing in the lazy chairs and hammock, situated on each tent’s deck. Eagle Island Lodge offers a private suite. Situated on the campground, it ensures ultimate luxury with a Victorian bath overlooking the wilderness, and an inside and outside shower. The suite has a large extended deck for game viewing, or guests can relax in the heated splash pool, set on the side. An exclusive vehicle and ranger at the suite are available for game viewing at any time, for the guest’s convenience. Guests can also enjoy walking safaris after an informative visit to the reference library. There are also talks and lectures on local fauna and flora as well as a checklist to follow, for the budding botanists.
At the Eagle Island Lodge is the romantic Fish Eagle Bar, where guests can enjoy a drink or dinner while beautiful colors come alive with the sunset. Guests can also enjoy a safari ride in a dugout canoe, known as a mokoro, or even go for a ride on a motorboat or a sundowner cruise on a barge. Last mentioned, unfortunately depend on the level of the water. Dinner can be enjoyed in front of a warm fire, or at the off site bush dining area, which is also equipped with a telescope, for viewing the exceptional nights skies of the Delta. The Eagle Island Camp has a large swimming pool next to the lagoon, perfectly situated for game viewing while relaxing in the cool or heated waters. Guests have an intercom system to the reception area. If anything is needed, the camp staff is just a buzz away. A mini bar is available for the enjoyment of something refreshing while relaxing in the pool, or just having a sundowner, while enjoying the lovely sunset over the flood planes.
