Oudtshoorn, situated in a beautiful valley between the Outeniqua and Swartberg Mountains is known to be the “Mecca” of the ostrich industry and is home to Adley House. This beautiful Sandstone Victorian house is within walking distance from the center of town, in a tranquil, up market area. Adley house was built by Sidney Herbert Adley, during the ostrich feather "boom" in 1905 and was used in 1948 for the orphans of World War 2. It was restored in 1989 and in 1994 became a true four-star rated, Victorian style Guesthouse.
Adley House offers fourteen individually decorated en-suite rooms for a pleasant stay. Each room has an air-conditioner and overhead fans, remote controlled channel TV, fully stocked fridges, tea/coffee trays, electric blankets, telephone and fax facilities. They also have a daily laundry service for more convenience.
A beautiful landscaped garden surrounds Adley House and you can cool off in one of the two swimming pools during the hot summer days. Some of the most popular activities in the area surrounding Adley House are watching ostrich shows, visiting the famous Cango Caves or visit the CangoWildlife Ranch where you can cuddle cheetah cubs or gaze at some crocodiles from a safe distance. The art lover can visit the Klein Karoo National Art Festival that takes place during March/April. Visitors are welcome to visit the Vrede and Meiringspoort Waterfalls as well as various others that have their origin in the surrounding Swartberg Mountains. There are also abundant hiking and biking trails, from subtropical to semi-arid, for the outdoor enthusiasts.
The sport enthusiast can make use of Oudtshoorn’s 18-hole golf course, squash courts, tennis courts, Olympic standard swimming pools, bowls etc. Every visitor that visits Adley house at Oudtshoorn always leaves fulfilled.
